Would an AI assistant recommend your firm?
The short answer
Ten questions, two minutes, a score out of 16. These are the factors that decide whether ChatGPT, Gemini or an AI Overview names your firm when someone asks for a solicitor near them - named authors, published pricing, location pages, reviews and off-site corroboration.
Are your practice-area pages written under a named, qualified solicitor's byline?
Named authors with credentials are the clearest E-E-A-T signal a law firm can send, and AI engines lean on them heavily when choosing who to cite.
Do you publish prices or price ranges for your main services?
Cost is the most common question asked of an assistant. Firms that answer it get quoted; firms that say 'contact us for a quote' get skipped. The SRA requires it for several practice areas anyway.
Does your site output LegalService, FAQPage and Person structured data?
Schema is how a machine reads your firm without guessing. Missing it doesn't block citation, but it makes you harder to parse than the firm that has it.
Does each service page open with a short, direct answer to its main question?
Extractive engines lift self-contained paragraphs. A page that opens with 'Welcome to our firm' offers nothing to quote.
Is your Google Business Profile complete, with reviews from the last 90 days?
Recency of reviews is a live local ranking signal and a trust proxy AI assistants echo.
Are your name, address and phone identical across your site, GBP, SRA and directories?
Inconsistent details split your firm into two entities in a machine's eyes, halving the corroboration behind either one.
Do you have a distinct page for each town or city you actually serve?
One 'Areas we cover' list page cannot rank for nine towns. Separate, genuinely different pages can.
Has your firm been cited or quoted in the legal or local press in the last year?
Off-site corroboration is what turns a claim on your website into a fact an assistant will repeat.
Does your site pass Core Web Vitals on mobile?
Most first contact with a solicitor is on a phone. A slow page loses the enquiry before ranking even matters.
Can you see which enquiries came from search, in GA4 or your case management system?
Without this you're optimising for rankings instead of instructions, and you can't tell which practice area is actually paying for itself.

About this checker
Does this check my website live?
No, and we won't pretend it does. It's a weighted self-assessment built from the ten things that most often decide whether a UK firm gets cited. If you want an actual crawl, prompt-set test and competitor comparison, that's the Law Firm Visibility Audit.
What's a good score?
Above 16 out of 20 and you're in decent shape; the gains left are in digital PR and content depth. Below 10 and there's usually one structural problem - no named authors, no location pages, or no published pricing - holding everything else back.
Do I have to give my email to see the score?
No. The score appears as you answer. The email form is there if you want the fixes written up for your firm specifically.
