Queensland's legal profession is growing faster than any other state's, and most of that growth is small firms. That makes the Brisbane and South East Queensland market one of the most open in the country for a firm willing to build properly.
The Brisbane legal market in numbers
The Legal Services Commission's 2024-25 annual report, drawing on Queensland Law Society data, recorded 2,897 solicitor law practices in Queensland, a 12% increase on the previous year. Of those, 918 were sole practitioners or partnerships (31.7% of the total, up 7.5%), 1,964 were incorporated legal practices (67.8%, up 14.8%), and 15 were multi-disciplinary practices. The incorporation rate is the highest in the country and reflects a profession that has been restructuring and growing from the bottom.
At 30 June 2025 there were 17,402 legal practitioners holding Queensland practising certificates, up 5.78% on the year, with women making up 57% of solicitors. Queensland represents 16% of the roughly 97,500 solicitors in Australia according to the 2024 National Profile of Solicitors, and the number of Queensland law practices has grown by well over 30% since 2018.
The Queensland Law Society, headquartered at Law Society House on Ann Street, is the professional body and co-regulator, with a Find a Solicitor directory that AI assistants read. The Legal Services Commission handles complaints and discipline. Queensland is not a Uniform Law state; it regulates under its own Legal Profession Act 2007, which affects costs disclosure and advertising rules and means content written for NSW or Victoria will not be right for Queensland.
The courts that anchor the market are the Supreme Court of Queensland and the District Court in the QEII Courts of Law complex on George Street, the Brisbane Magistrates Court, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Brisbane), and the suburban Magistrates Courts at Beenleigh, Ipswich, Caboolture, Cleveland, Redcliffe, Holland Park, Sandgate, Wynnum, Pine Rivers and Richlands, each anchoring a criminal and civil catchment. The Gold Coast has its own Southport courthouse; the Sunshine Coast has Maroochydore.
How Brisbane legal search actually behaves
South East Queensland is a corridor, and clients search along it
Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Redland, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast are seven local government areas and at least four distinct legal markets. The Gold Coast in particular is a separate city with its own 600,000-plus population, its own firms and its own search behaviour; a Brisbane firm claiming the Gold Coast without an office there will not rank and should not try. Logan and Ipswich are large, fast-growing and under-served, with their own courts and their own identities.
Brisbane's suburbs search by name, and the river divides them
North of the river (Chermside, Aspley, Nundah, Albany Creek, Strathpine, Caboolture) and south (Mount Gravatt, Sunnybank, Carindale, Springwood, Browns Plains, Beenleigh) are different catchments. The west (Indooroopilly, Toowong, Kenmore, Jindalee, Ipswich) and the bayside (Wynnum, Manly, Capalaba, Cleveland, Redcliffe) are different again. Proximity matters, and the map pack is suburb by suburb.
Conveyancing in Queensland is a solicitor's market
Unlike NSW and Victoria, Queensland does not license conveyancers separately; residential conveyancing is done by solicitors and by conveyancing firms operating under solicitor supervision. That removes one competitor type but makes the solicitor-to-solicitor competition on price and speed sharper. Queensland's standard REIQ contract, the five-business-day cooling-off period, the body corporate (strata) regime under the Body Corporate and Community Management Act, and Queensland's transfer duty and first home concessions all generate specific questions a Brisbane page has to answer.
Family law is large and growing
The Brisbane FCFCOA registry serves the whole of South East Queensland, and the region's rapid population growth and high mobility (interstate migration into Queensland has been the highest in the country for several years) generate strong family law demand. Relocation disputes are a Queensland speciality for that reason.
Compensation work is significant and the advertising rules are tight
Queensland restricts personal injury advertising under the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act, more tightly than most states. Compensation firms (CTP, WorkCover, public liability) cannot lean on headline claims and win instead on useful, compliant content about process and eligibility, which is what wins organic and AI visibility anyway. Queensland also has one of the largest concentrations of national compensation firms outside Sydney, several headquartered in Brisbane.
Multilingual demand is concentrated
Sunnybank, Runcorn and Eight Mile Plains (Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean), Inala and Darra (Vietnamese), Logan (Samoan, Tongan, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic), and the inner south generate multilingual immigration, family and conveyancing demand. Queensland's profession is less linguistically diverse than Sydney's, which makes a firm with genuine language capability rarer and more valuable.
Property is the economy
Brisbane's property market, the 2032 Olympics infrastructure programme, the growth corridors and the interstate migration wave make conveyancing, property development, body corporate and planning work unusually strong, and the search demand follows.
Where the demand sits across South East Queensland
CBD and inner city
(Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane, West End, New Farm, Teneriffe): commercial, corporate, employment, apartment conveyancing with body corporate complexity, and the court precinct. The national firms (Allens, Clayton Utz, Corrs, HopgoodGanim, McCullough Robertson, Thomson Geer, Carter Newell, McInnes Wilson and others) cluster around Eagle Street and George Street.
North Brisbane and Moreton Bay
(Chermside, Aspley, Nundah, Albany Creek, Strathpine, Petrie, Caboolture, Redcliffe, North Lakes): suburban conveyancing, family, wills, criminal (Pine Rivers, Sandgate, Redcliffe and Caboolture Magistrates Courts), and the Moreton Bay growth corridor's new-build market.
South Brisbane and Logan
(Mount Gravatt, Sunnybank, Carindale, Springwood, Browns Plains, Beenleigh, Logan Central): mixed demand with strong family, criminal (Holland Park and Beenleigh Magistrates Courts), conveyancing and multilingual immigration work. Logan is a city in its own right with 350,000 people and is under-served.
West Brisbane and Ipswich
(Toowong, Indooroopilly, Kenmore, Jindalee, Springfield, Ipswich): established western suburbs with conveyancing, family and private client demand, the University of Queensland student market, and the Ipswich and Springfield growth corridor with its own Magistrates Court and its own identity.
Bayside and Redland
(Wynnum, Manly, Capalaba, Cleveland, Victoria Point): a coastal suburban market with conveyancing, family, wills and the Cleveland and Wynnum Magistrates Courts.
Gold Coast
(Southport, Surfers Paradise, Robina, Burleigh, Coolangatta): a separate city and a separate market, with strong conveyancing (including a large off-the-plan apartment sector), family, criminal (Southport courthouse) and compensation demand. Firms here should target Gold Coast suburbs, not Brisbane.
Sunshine Coast
(Maroochydore, Caloundra, Noosa, Nambour): another separate market, property-led and growing fast.
Queensland-specific compliance and content
Queensland's Legal Profession Act 2007, the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act, the Australian Consumer Law and the QLS's own guidance shape what a Brisbane firm can publish. Costs disclosure obligations mean fee content has to be accurate and not misleading. Compensation advertising is tightly restricted. Conveyancing content has to be written to Queensland law: the REIQ contract, the cooling-off period, body corporate, transfer duty. A page written for NSW will read as wrong to a Queensland buyer and will not be cited by an assistant answering a Queensland question.
Proof from our campaigns
Our clearest conveyancing proof is J Scott & Co in Maidenhead, a UK high-street firm that went from ranking for its own name to the top result for 28 searches, from zero AI assistant mentions to 687 a month (against 15 for its nearest rival), and from 15 to 77 enquiries a month in six months, by building a page for every town in its catchment and a conveyancing section with real fees and real guides. In Brisbane the equivalent is a page for every suburb or corridor the firm serves, written to Queensland law.
Our clearest employment proof is Deen & Co in Canary Wharf: 62 to 1,021 monthly Google clicks in three months, 33 enquiries in a month, 7,017 AI citations in a quarter, and a Redundancy Hub that publishes a page for each major employer's staff the day job cuts are announced. Brisbane's large employers in mining services, government, health, universities and retail make it a natural market for the same system under the Fair Work framework.
Our Conveyancing Conversion Report 2026, from 36,463 closed enquiries across 22 UK firms, found that direct enquiry share predicts conversion at a rank correlation of +0.80, that Google star rating predicts it at +0.56 while review count does not, and that 80.5% of instructions are won within seven days. Queensland's conveyancing market, with its five-day cooling-off period and its fast-moving contracts, rewards response speed even more.
Every figure above is one the client has approved and we can evidence in their analytics.
The pages a Brisbane firm needs
A page per suburb or corridor the firm genuinely serves, with substance that could only be about that place: the housing stock (Queenslanders, post-war brick, new-build estates, apartment towers), the council, the Magistrates Court, the motorway and the station, the languages, the agents, and a named practitioner. Conveyancing content written to Queensland law. Compensation content written inside the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act rules. Languages stated plainly where the team has them. Court-anchored content for criminal and family teams. A Google Business Profile per office. And for CBD commercial teams, sector-specific, partner-led content.
Brisbane and AI search
When a Brisbane client asks an assistant "can you recommend a conveyancing solicitor in Chermside" or "who is a good family lawyer in Logan", the assistant names a handful of firms from the firm's own site, the QLS Find a Solicitor directory, Google reviews and local directories. Most Brisbane firm websites give it nothing to quote. A firm whose suburb page is substantive, whose entity is consistent and whose reviews are recent gets named. We track a set of real client questions for each Brisbane firm monthly across ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, suburb by suburb.
What the work looks like each month in Brisbane
The Brisbane month runs on suburb and corridor pages, the map pack per office, reviews and Queensland compliance. We maintain and extend the suburb pages. We keep each Google Business Profile optimised and reviewed. We publish practice-area content written to Queensland law. We earn editorial links through digital PR in the Courier-Mail, the Australian Financial Review, Lawyers Weekly, QLS Proctor and the local press. We track suburb-level rankings and AI mentions. And we go through the enquiry list with the firm monthly, by suburb and by practice area.

Questions, answered
Law firm SEO in Brisbane: FAQs
Should we target "lawyers Brisbane" at all?
Rarely. It is a CBD commercial term. Suburb and corridor pages you can genuinely support, plus a strong Google Business Profile per office, produce more enquiries for less effort.
Can a Brisbane firm rank on the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast?
Only with a real presence there. They are separate cities and separate markets. A page claiming them without an office will not rank and will read as thin.
We do compensation work. What can we publish?
Useful, compliant content on how CTP, WorkCover and public liability claims work, who is eligible and what the process involves, written inside the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act rules. That content wins the search and the AI citation; headline claims are not permitted and would not win anyway.
Do you have a Brisbane office?
Our Australian base is in Sydney. We work with Brisbane and South East Queensland firms from there, as we work with UK firms from London, and the suburb-level work is done the same way.
Will you work with a competing firm in our suburb?
No. One firm per practice area per catchment. In South East Queensland a catchment is a suburb or a corridor, not the city.
