SRA-compliant SEO content: what solicitors can and can't publish

By Content Lead · Updated · 7 min read

The short answer

Solicitors can market themselves freely provided the content is accurate, not misleading, and evidenced. In practice that rules out outcome guarantees, unverifiable superlatives such as "best in the UK", fabricated reviews and success rates you cannot substantiate - and it requires clear, prominent price and service information for the work types covered by the SRA Transparency Rules.

The test is accurate and not misleading

Almost every compliance question about marketing copy resolves to that. If a statement is true, evidenced and would not mislead an ordinary reader about what they are buying or what will happen, it is usually fine.

What we won't publish for a firm

Guaranteed outcomes or implied guarantees. Superlatives with no basis. Success rates without a documented method. Testimonials the firm cannot produce. Comparative claims about named competitors. Anything that reads like advice to a specific reader's situation without the caveats.

Transparency rules are a marketing asset

The required price and service information is exactly what a prospective client searches for. Firms that publish it clearly, keep it current and give it a real page consistently outperform firms that hide it behind an enquiry form.

Compliant doesn't mean dull

Specificity does the work that hype was doing. "We complete most standard freehold sales in 8–10 weeks and tell you on day one who is handling it" beats "the best conveyancers in the UK", and it is defensible.

Questions, answered

Related questions

Can we publish client testimonials?

Yes, provided they are genuine, obtained with consent, not edited to change meaning, and don't imply a guaranteed outcome. Keep a record of consent.

Can we say we're the best in our area?

Not without evidence. An unqualified superlative risks being misleading. A specific, verifiable claim - a ranking, an award, a published metric - is safer and more persuasive.

Does your content go past our COLP?

Yes. Everything is drafted to the Code, then sent to your compliance lead for sign-off before publication. Nothing goes live over your head.

Who stands behind this page

Written by the people who ran the enquiries, not by a content team

legalbuzz is run by George Levett and PJ Singh. They met at a City of London law firm, where PJ led sales operations and George ran digital growth, and went on to build Conveyancer Plus, the UK’s first outsourced conveyancing sales team. That is where the data on this site comes from: 36,463 closed conveyancing enquiries across 22 UK firms, which showed that 42.8% of instructions are won on the day of enquiry and that conversion varies 17.6x between firms on the same lead source. Every page here is written by a named founder, checked against the SRA Code, dated and reviewed.
